The Geordie Tourist Does: The Imperial Chinese Restaurant.
08:16
My mam recently celebrated her birthday, and thought it
would be nice for the family to go for a little meal together. She decided on
the Imperial in Low Fell.
The Imperial is nestled right in the heart of the Fell (Bit
of slang there, for regulars of the place) and it’s been a firm family
favourite for many years now. They specialise in Chinese food, good food at
that and especially grand style banquets that can get any mouth salivating just
by the thought of it.
At the moment myself and my mam aren't eating meat, whether
it will stick I don’t know. I just know that we watched the Vegucated documentary
the other day and haven’t been the same since. (If you love meat, don’t do it)
I was worried that our options would be limited, but they had a vegetarian
banquet on the menu. These are the things we had:
Prawn crackers
Sweetcorn soup
Deep fried vegetable spring rolls
Deep fried vegetable trigons
Crispy Seaweed
Tofu in chilli and salt
Egg fried rice
Mixed vegetables in bird’s nest
Mixed vegetables Szechuan style
There was more than enough for the two of us. Considering it was one of our first meat free meals it just tasted amazing. I thought I'd miss the meat, but I really didn't. I wasn't even bothered when my brother was chowing down on duck pancakes (which I love)
It was £14.95 for the option that we went for and £17.90 for the Royal Banquet which the rest of the party had. They have so many options on their menu. I definitely think the banquet is the way to go. It just makes the occasion feel more special.
At the end you get a fortune cookie, which has always been the best part for me. Don't get me wrong the food is the reason you go back again and again, but I'm a little kid at heart and love finding out what my fortune will say.
If you're a big Chinese food fan then check out the Imperial, I promise you won't be sorry. Not a meat lover, then they have you covered there too.
Have any of you had any great Chinese food lately?
